The Cog & Compass is a steampunk-themed tavern built for cozy conversation, big flavors, and a beloved four-legged hostess.

Our story began with two cosplayers who met at Anime Expo. Lifelong nerds who grew up in California, the founders spent years in hospitality — one behind the bar, one on the floor — while quietly dreaming of something bigger. For over a decade, the idea of a steampunk bar simmered, waiting for its moment. Tired of the paycheck-to-paycheck grind, the couple packed up with their dog and moved to Vietnam, eventually landing in Đà Nẵng — a city with the same laid-back, sun-soaked energy as the SoCal coast they grew up on. It felt like home, and it felt like the right place to finally build something of their own. They gutted the space and rebuilt it brick by brick — inside and out — pouring a decade of bartending know-how, a goth's eye for atmosphere, and a gamer's love of world-building into every gear and gaslight. The result is a clockwork lounge built for cocktails you won't find anywhere else, cozy corners for real conversation, and stories worth sticking around for.
